She is from Glasgow, Scotland; she is not Irish although she plays an Irish immigrant in the HBO series. She does many accents remarkably well. She is not an up-and-comer; she started her career in Trainspotting; starred in Altman's Gosford Park; and most recently played Carla Jean in the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men. Her last name is spelled with lower case c and d. Kelly Macdonald a quiet scene stealer.
